What is the Project Management Software Guide
The Project Management Software Guide (Guide) is a publication by American Eagle Group to help buyers make better, more informed decisions concerning the purchase of PM products or services. The Guide provides comparison charts. The chart is constructed of requirements based upon years of consulting with clients in a variety of industries. Each product or service is rated against the requirements.
Buyers can easily see which products or services meet many of their needs. They can generate short lists of offerings to be analyzed in the context of their environment. No general comparison of this type can account for the buyer's specific culture or organization. That is not the goal of the Guide. It's goal is to provide an overview of product capabilities.
The Guide contains articles beneficial to making a buying decision. Vendors have the opportunity to submit articles or whitepapers for the Guide. They will have the ability to buy full descriptions of their offerings so buyers can more fully understand their benefits and features. Participating vendors will have an opportunity to purchase printed copies of the Guide for their own distribution.
The Guide is tied to this website (www.pmsoftwareguide.com). The website will expand to include an interactive comparison component buyers can use. Additionally, it contains the latest product information as vendors keep their respective information current with the PM Software Guide.

This is a great question. Initially, the Guide will be distributed via an electronic PDF from the PMSoftwareGuide.com website. Customers must register information, especially a valid e-mail address, to receive the Guide. We will work with a number of non-profit organizations to advertise the Guide’s availability and distribute it throughout their membership. Our initial estimate of readership should reach 50,000. Through aggressive effort, we will continue to increase that number with distribution at local, regional and national trade events.
Over the next 36 months, we anticipate reaching a professional project management audience in excess of 300,000.

What Other Information Will Be Provided?
We don't have specific items in mind at this point. Other items might include surveys for feature upgrades, discussion boards, blogs and other avenues for delivering content. Suggestions are always welcomed from both buyers and vendors.

Can Consultants and Training Companies Be Considered?
Initially, we limit the information to products and services such as project schedulers and tracking mechanism. In subsequent editions,we may fold in consultants and trainers, and other items. We needed to bound this effort to a reasonable amount while providing a lot of value so we can get it out the door. After all, isn't that what good project management is all about - defining and controlling the scope of a project?

Buyers Will Be Able To Easily Compare Competitors' Products or Services?
Yes, letting your buyers compare your offering directly with your competitors is a bit scary. At the same token, your customers will see your offering. Here is the bigger issue, though. If you're not listed in the Guide and your competitors are, you'll miss out on the comparison. The buyer won't see you.
Besides, even without the Guide, the buyers are doing the comparisons. Both your offering and your competition's information is on the internet. Buyers can find it to do their own comparison. The Guide makes it easier for them to do their work. If the buyer wants to save time and money, they'll come to the Guide to make their job easier. You've got to be in it to be a part of their consideration.
